École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq
Diplôme en théâtre physique – Paris, France

Roueida Ghali is a graduate of the École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris— widely recognized as one of the most distinguished theatre schools in the world. Founded by Jacques Lecoq in 1956, the school is known for shaping a global movement in physical and devised theatre. Its alumni include some of the most innovative theatre-makers and performers of the last century.

Trained in Lecoq’s rigorous pedagogy, which emphasizes the expressive power of the body, movement, and space, Roueida developed an approach to performance rooted in clarity, empathy, and imaginative transformation. Her acceptance to the school was made possible through a rare and highly competitive $8,000 grant from the French government—one of the highest international awards for arts study available at the time.

This experience continues to inform her teaching, her writing, and her belief in theatre as a vital language of renewal and resistance.

    A Life in Movement

Introduction: Roueida Ghali is a Lebanese actress, choreographer, and educator whose career spans over three decades at the intersection of physical theater, cultural heritage, and contemporary performance. Trained at the internationally renowned Jacques Lecoq School in Paris, she has worked across Lebanon, Europe, and North Africa.

    Early Career

From Beirut’s university classrooms to dimly lit rehearsal studios, Roueida Ghali has traced a path marked not by spectacle, but by steady, embodied presence. Her artistic life reflects a commitment to rigor, silence, and the expressive truth of the body in space.

Her influence extends across generations of performers and educators in Lebanon and abroad, and her work continues to evolve with integrity and impact.

    Philosophy

Ghali’s work emphasizes discipline, introspection, and the power of gesture. Her theater is a space of listening, not loudness; of memory, not mimicry. Students who have studied with her often speak of transformation—not just in movement, but in the way they experience their own artistic voice.

“Wherever an actor reaches for something beyond the text—her fingerprint is there.”

    Collaborations

Ghali has worked closely with directors and choreographers across Europe, the Arab world, and Africa, including Jalal Khoury, Wajdi Mouawad, and companies exploring hybrid forms of movement, sound, and text. Her portfolio spans solo pieces, ensemble work, and pedagogical residencies.

    Legacy

Though she rarely seeks the spotlight, Ghali’s influence is quietly vast. Her students speak of her with respect and gratitude. Some now perform on international stages; others teach in conservatories or create their own companies—but many still find themselves returning to her principles.

“You’ve changed my life,” they say.
